(TACOMA) – In a special opportunity just for men, MultiCare Health System will host, “The Drive Against Prostate Cancer,” a free prostate cancer screening on Friday, July 11, 2008.
“The Drive Against Prostate Cancer” will be held at a mobile screening unit located between JC Penney and Sears at the Tacoma Mall from 12 noon to 7 pm.
The screening consists of a simple blood test, with results in less than 20 minutes. No appointments or insurance coverage are necessary. While waiting for test results, men can enjoy free snacks and watch a sporting event on the big screen TV.
MultiCare physicians John Rieke, MD, and Champ Weeks, MD will be providing these simple checks and offering information on prostate cancer prevention and treatment.
“Offering these tests in a welcoming environment for men is a great opportunity to educate them about prostate cancer,” said Dr. Weeks. “Men often don’t know the facts, only to find out later they have prostate cancer, which could have been easily detected, treated early or even prevented.”
Only skin cancer has a higher rate of incidence among men. Regular checks and screenings are the best way to prevent prostate cancer or detect it early.
